Boston Visual Arts Advisory Council Member for Learnivore.com

Company Name:
Learnivore
Learnivore is Seeking a Representative to its Arts Advisory Council Member: NOT A PAID POSITION
Learnivore is seeking applications for 5 representatives to its Boston Arts Advisory Council. Representatives will be selected so as to represent the breadth of Learnivores arts disciplines.
Below is a description of what we are looking for in advisory council members, the desired behaviors associated with being on an advisory council, and the possible benefits to you.
Advisory Council Member Description:
Advisory council members are experts in their respective fields. They are leaders in their communities both in terms of their physical communities within a given metropolitan area, and within virtual communities associated with the disciplines they pursue. They are active instructors, tutors, coaches, or teachers, and they have connections with many other instructors.
About Learnivore: Learnivore's mission is to create a platform where people can go to develop and share their interests, whether those interests are in the arts, athletics and/or academics. In Learnivore's current incarnation, the focus is on creating a place to connect instructors in the arts, athletics and academics with students/clients. The platform will be growing well beyond that in September, allowing instructors to connect with and follow one another, as well as current and potential clients; to post content; and to post classes (all in addition to the searching and posting functionality we currently offer). Learnivore is currently a free platform, and will remain free to post and to search instructor profiles and content. Lessons are not booked through Learnivore, nor do we take a cut of your lessons. You work out details and payment with students/clients on your own. Learnivore launched in mid-June and is in the middle of a major initial push to get instructors to the site. We will begin a major push to drive students/clients to the site in September.
Advisory Council Duties:
Advisory & Collaboration:
o Make every attempt to attend one in-person meeting in your city per year with Learnivore's CEO, and the other members of your city's advisory councils.
o Make every attempt to attend four on-line meetings per year. Two of these will be with the other advisory council members in your city (arts, athletics, and acdemics). Two of these will be with the other members of the Arts Advisory Councils in other cities.
Engagement: Use Learnivore to its fullest. This means making sure that your profile is as fully-fleshed out as possible, posting blogs when the blogging functionality is released in September, and growing your social network on Learnivore, by following people on Learnivore, and recruiting others to follow you on Learnivore. We do not want you to promote Learnivore on your blog, we want you to use Learnivore as a channel to promote and share your own expertise.
Evangelism: Tell colleagues in your field about Learnivore, and help them to understand how to engage with, and get the most out of Learnivore. The best means of doing this is to send them a link to your own Learnivore profile and offer to answer any questions for themand when you don't know the answer, reach out to us so we can help.
Promotion: If you are comfortable with it, we would like it if you would promote your participation with the Boston Arts Advisory Council on your LinkedIn profile, or other places where you describe your professional activities.
#GoInteresting: If you feel comfortable with it, we would love it if you would participate in the #GoInteresting Challenge. (www dot gointeresting dot com for more details on what this is). GoInteresting is our way of teeing up an understanding of the kind of network that Learnivore will be, and the diversity of its members' interests. It may be best to wait till the social functionality is released, as in some ways what this challenge does now is point out the inappropriateness of existing social networks in fostering this type of sharing.
Possible Advisory Council
Benefits:
Early Access: As an advisory council member, you will get early notification and access to new features, including being part of beta-testing programs, if you would like to do that.
Influence: Advisory council members will have the opportunity to impact our strategy through their guidance, both in terms of the functionality we develop, and how we take that functionality to market. Ideally, your participation will help you to make Learnivore work for you, and others who are active in your field.
Opportunities: As we grow Learnivore, we will be adding featured content and people, and Advisory Council members will be given right of first refusal for these opportunities. For instance, we will be adding activity feeds in September, and we would like to populate those feeds with content relevant to users' interests. When a user first signs up though, s/he won't be following anyone, so initially populating those people's activity feeds with posts from advisory council members who share the same interests would be a natural step, and a great way for you to increase your prominence and voice in your city, and nationwide.
Influencing Learnivore's Activity in Your Community: As Learnivore grows, we do hope to be able to engage directly with communities in our key target markets. We will look to Advisory Council members for advice on which organizations to partner with, and how.
Publicity: We will be issuing press releases detailing the advisory councils, and their members in each of our key cities. If you join the Boston Arts Advisory Council and you are comfortable with it, we would love to include your name and a link to your profile in that press release.
No Monetary Benefit: You will not be financially compensated for participation Learnivore's Advisory Councils. This is because the purpose of these councils is to provide un-biased advice to Learnivore, and to have people within the community who can vouch for the benefit of Learnivorewithout having the sincerity of their advocacy tainted by, or influenced by a monetary affiliation. Of course if you cease to see the purpose or value of Learnivore, we would not want you to participate. You will not be an employee.
About Learnivores Business Model:
Our business model differs from that of other marketplaces purporting to link instructors and students (because we plan on being more than a marketplace). Our business model is based on the idea that if we can get a lot of people using the platform, we will be able to generate revenues by offering services which will be of interest to some small portion of our users (1-10%). This is why the basic posting and search service is free and will remain free, and why we dont interfere with communications between instructors and students (i.e. you can send your phone or email address to a student so you can talk to that person before meeting and identify fit). This model is similar to what Craigslist, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter do.
