The Center for Outdoor Learning and Leadership (COLL) helps people of all ages and backgrounds pursue their outdoor experiences and goals along a self-directed outdoor journey.
It provides the training and knowledge to uphold AMC's values of safety, conservation, and equitable access to the outdoors.
Educators Outdoors, is an outdoor education, professional development, and social justice program of COLL.
We partner with organizations and schools that serve youth from under- resourced communities and communities of color that have historically faced barriers to outdoor recreation.
What you'll be doing:
Gear Room & Remote Site Maintenance Oversee daily upkeep of gear room.
Organize, pack, clean, and maintain gear for optimal use:
sleeping bags, tents, backpacks, pots and pans, stoves, boots, socks, etc.
Maintain inventory and track usage of gear at our Boston-based office and at our remote sites in Canton, North Andover, and Worcester.
Keep an annual calendar to regularly repair and maintain gear, from washing boots to waterproofing tents to patching rain pants.
Manage inventory and purchasing of First Aid supplies, fuel, pcord, and various other consumables.
Work with Community Support Manager to purchase new gear inventory.
Implement the use of MyTurn software, an online inventory system for COLL gear libraries.
Drive an AMC 12-passenger van as needed.
Member Liaison for Independent Trips Schedule and coordinate the issuing and de-issuing of outdoor equipment from our Gear Libraries to members to support their outdoor trips with youth.
Oversee and track Lodging Reservations process for independent trips.
Communicate with members throughout the entire process of trip planning, from the moment they input their lodging or gear request to when they drop off gear and submit their trip report.
Be a resource for trip planning in the greater Boston area, gaining familiarity with local trails, AMC destinations, and best practices through site visits, research, and participating in taking workshops as professional development.
Support for Outdoor Leadership Trainings, Workshops, and Volunteer Events Meal plan for all Outdoor Leadership Trainings and workshops, planning menus based on participants and activity, grocery shopping, and organizing food.
Prepare all equipment for trainings, working with Senior Manager to update group equipment lists; pull, test, and organize equipment for use by participants.
Pull and distribute individual gear requests for participants.
Provide program support the first and/or last day of outdoor leadership trainings through on-site coordination of logistics and equipment as needed.
Schedule and lead two or more volunteer gear days.
Recruit, onboard, and supervise volunteers from the greater COLL community.
General Member Outreach & Retention Support staff with outreach and retention efforts:
contacting members and helping them access appropriate resources.
Update member information and trip reports in ETO database.
What we're looking for:
Dedication to AMC's mission to make the outdoors accessible to youth living in under-resourced communities and other underserved groups.
Professional or personal experience managing outdoor equipment and logistics for trips.
Prior experience in outdoor education is preferred but not required.
Self-directed with strong time management skills and attention to detail; demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects at once.
Effective organizational skills and the ability to implement a system to organize gear usage.
Prior experience with gear management preferred.
Strong interpersonal communication skills and confidence engaging volunteers and members.
Personal commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice.
Up-to-date computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Suite and a willingness to learn and utilize Social Solution's ETO database system.
Ability to work a varied schedule.
Some weekends, evenings, and overnights are required.
Travel an average of once a week to remote gear sites and/or training locations.
Must be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid driver's license and a clear driving record.
Driving record check and criminal background check will be performed.
Physical abilities needed:
Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
Ability to move up and down ladders safely and proficiently.
Willingness to participate in AMC's Outdoor Leadership Training and other professional development workshops.

Salary Range:
$45,500 / year The salary range for this position is contingent on experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position.
Please note that the indicated starting salary range describes the range for an incumbent in this position.
New staff members typically start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
