Sr Veterinary Lab Technician

The individual will serve as a Senior Animal Care & Operations Technician for BioHip Primary responsibilities will include (1) performing animal husbandry and care activities involving a variety of laboratory animal species.
And (2) serving as anesthesiologist during large animal surgical procedures.
The job will involve:
(1) performing duties that require specialized skills associated with the care and handling of laboratory animals before and after surgery including pre-operative animal preparation, anesthesiology or surgical assistance, and pre-, peri- and post-operative drug administration and care (2) observing, reporting and handling health concerns as they arise (3) maintaining appropriate documentation and records of animal husbandry and care activities, (4) serving as contact person (with senior vet tech) in response to health concerns raised by the veterinary staff (on call 24/7).
(5) IACUC protocol reviews and modifications and annual renewals 2 years
Experience:
Ability to work directly with a variety of laboratory animal species (current species include mice, rats, rabbits, and goat) Experience in bone and cartilage repair in animals (rodents first, large animals second) Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment, animal caging, and other equipment commonly utilized throughout the animal facility Ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) appropriate for the species, animal housing conditions, or work area Ability to lift/move 50 pounds.
Basic computer skills including the ability to utilize common applications (e.
g.
, email, Word, Excel) The following are desired or preferred:
Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science or a similar biological science Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) level Completion of an AVMA CVTEA (Committee on Veterinary Technician Education Activities) accredited veterinary technician program Licensed, certified, or registered veterinary technician status Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level within 12 months of start date Valid US driver's license Recommended Skills Planned Maintenance Animal Experimentation Microsoft Excel Medication Administration Surgical Procedures Microsoft Word Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
