MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT (Floater)

Screens patients, visitors and caregivers at entry to the Medical Center Collects and updates insurance information from Veterans, family members and other eligible patients. Prepares correspondence and memos as needed. Screens/receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of request and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes. Ensures data is entered into VISTA accurately and scans documents into VISTA Imaging within 24 hours of entering the data into VISTA if applicable. Promotes Veteran registration for and utilization of MyHealthyVet (MHV) Stocks basic office supplies for the clinical area. Enters Veterans seeking emergent/urgent care, scheduling appointments accurately. Utilizes call lists and telephones Veterans to pre-register them before their scheduled visits. Incumbent updates all patient demographics. Communicates and interacts with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. Assures that all appropriate VA forms are used correctly and regulations followed. Additional duties or tasks may be assigned by the supervisor to ensure efficient daily operations Work Schedule:

Position can either be NAGE or AFGE bargaining unit depending on location Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). Experience:
Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR one year above high school; OR equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). GS-3:
To qualify at the GS-3 level applicants must have six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR one year above high school. OR equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. GS-4:
To qualify at the GS-4 grade level you must have one year of experience in clerical, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the position OR two years of education above high school. GS-5:
To qualify at the GS-5 grade you must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level OR four years of education above high school. Experience includes scheduling and rescheduling patients for treatment; interviewing patients for appointments; referring patients to other medical specialty clinics providing information to patients necessary to resolve VA Handbook complaints, interacting with both internal and external customers; reviewing and documenting medical outpatients and inpatients electronic health records as well as administrative records; verifying third party insurance and updating information in the insurance Capture Buffer (ICB) system, obtaining medical information from patients; coordinating information and actions related to patient care and services. Medical Support Assistant Qualification Standard GS-679 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-5. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-3 through GS-5. Physical Requirements:
Work is sedentary but also demands standing, walking, bending, twisting, and carrying light items. Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations. May be exposed to extreme temperatures/inclement weather.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
