Job-Specific Responsibilities The Harvard Ph.D. Program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, (known as BBS), spans eight research communities comprised of basic science departments and interdepartmental programs at Harvard Medical School. The Program provides mentoring and advising to a highly talented community of students who carry out Ph.D. thesis research in laboratories at Harvard Medical School, Harvard affiliated Hospitals, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. BBS is dedicated to educating students so they develop as researchers and leaders who will change science in the 21st Century and beyond. Reporting directly to the Directors of BBS as part of the program's administrative team, with a dotted line to the DMS Senior Director, the Assistant Director will supervise a team of two Program Administrators to provide comprehensive, professional student and academic services to the graduate students and faculty of BBS. Overall responsibilities include:
Responsible for the overall strategic management of all administrative aspects of the BBS Ph.D. Program. Researches, develops, and implements graduate program policies and procedures. Serves as an advisor to program directors, the executive committee, and works in close collaboration with HMS and GSAS colleagues. Contributes to the annual strategic planning process and works with selected faculty members to accomplish program goals. Supervises two staff for BBS program. Leads a team that provides administrative leadership for the planning and execution of meaningful graduate events for BBS students to promote the academic, professional, and social development of DMS students. Events include orientation, commencement-related celebratory events, and community-building activities. Assesses student needs and develops relevant programming. Acts as a primary advising resource for BBS students and faculty. Monitors the progress of BBS students. Provides guidance and support to over 370 current BBS students and over 350 BBS faculty; assisting them with finding resources to help resolve issues both academic and personal. Manages all projects and events (admissions, recruitment, retreat, orientation, faculty membership, community education, website, and social media) for BBS Program. Prepares reports and materials for the submission of the training grant and internal/external program review. Maintains program database. Prepare, project, and administer budget for the BBS program Other duties as needed Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degreerequired. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in academic administration or program development. Additional Qualifications and Skills Master's degree in higher education or related field. Team player with a positive, problem-solving attitude and mature attitude. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse constituency. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and the ability to evaluate needs, establish priorities, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple tasks. Strong organizational, planning, and event management skills. Overtime is required during specific periods, especially leading up to and during program events. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Education AdministrationEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
