Senior Automation Engineer, IT Systems Wayfair is a dynamic, cutting-edge technology company operating in the ecommerce space. Wayfair is looking to grow our IT Systems team by bringing on board a talented development focused Senior Engineer in a full time role to help automate the server & virtualization infrastructure, by maintaining and creating new automation tools to continue to drive transformation of our environments. This team supports the technical foundation of our rapidly growing corporate environment, corporate applications, and campus/warehouse sites. Our projects center around growth and scale; we are always working to improve and expand Wayfair's server environment. Responsibilities include maintaining systems functionality, availability, security, and performance, as well as scheduling, planning, and execution of system deployments and upgrades. Partners with IT Operations Engineers, Endpoint Engineers, and Design and Development Engineers ensuring compatibility and configuration standards are maintained and properly documented. Ensures adherence to IT best practices and Wayfair corporate IT practices and security policy. This position may be required to work hours outside of a regular schedule. Engineers with experience in automating on-prem hardware deployments and Azure or GCP cloud integrations in the Retail space are encouraged to apply! What you'll do:
Help to grow the global production infrastructure that underpins our corporate environment Build, develop and maintain custom virtualization automation, monitoring and reporting tools Troubleshoot, resolve, and assist in complex virtualization & server related issues through code Participate in automation initiatives that interface with our foundational services, site build, storage & networking frameworks Mentor and share knowledge about coding & development with less experienced members of the team Conducts systems analyses and research to develop integration plans for new systems and software in order to ensure compatibility with the current IT infrastructure and changing technologies. Builds virtual and physical servers to design specifications through code. Ensures all systems meet or exceed the business and security requirements in accordance with Wayfair security standards. Prepares technical documentation, to include standard operating procedures and processes. Develops solutions to a diverse range of complex problems. Coordinates resources to resolve problems when necessary. Who you are:
You look for opportunities to automate solutions. BA or BS degree from a 4-year college or university or equivalent experience - CS background preferred 3
years coding experience. 3
years of experience with virtualization technologies in a production environment preferred Desire to code in multiple languages. This is a diverse role, currently we use Python, Powershell/PowerCli,. Being able to switch between languages at any given time and desire to learn new languages is a must. Ability to script in go is not required but a plus Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and comfortable in a global working environment. Infrastructure background preferred but not required. Understanding of other virtualization technologies (KVM, Hyper-V, Citrix/XCP) is not required but a plus Very strong troubleshooting skills Ability to work through ambiguity to discover the true driving factors and can make design decisions Familiar with Ansible, Desired State Configuration (Microsoft DSC), Terraform or comparable automation tools preferred. Familiar with Linux, RHEL and/or CentOS a large plus Familiar with containers a plus Experience working in a consultative fashion with non-technical people to take their ideas and turn them into a technical solution Agile Scrum Master experience is a huge plus.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
