Post-doctoral Fellow in Human Immunology

Post-doctoral fellow in human immunologyThe Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a Harvard affiliate, is looking for exceptional candidates to join the research group of Dr.
Georg Lauer in the Division of Gastroenterology.
The successful candidate will join a research program focused on CD4 and CD8 T cell immunity against viral infections in humans by chronic pathogens such as HBV, HCV, and on intrahepatic immune cells in different liver diseases.
Our overall aim is to understand the molecular correlates of protective immunity as well as the pathways allowing pathogens to escape immune surveillance in humans.
The program is funded by several NIH RO1 and U19 awards but also includes collaborations around disease-specific immunology with industry.
Our laboratory and its collaborative environment offer the opportunity to apply cutting edge immunological techniques to highly relevant human diseases and to grow professionally in an equally supportive and stimulating environment.
This Postdoctoral Research Fellow position offers the opportunity to work within a highly collaborative team in the Division of Gastroenterology at MGH, and to interact with many other scientists at MGH, Harvard, MIT, and beyond.
Key opportunities in our group are access to unique and extensive patient cohorts and sample repositories including blood and tissue specimens, and to a large toolbox of virus-specific T cell reagents essential for the generation of high quality immunological data.
Responsibilities will include the design and implementation of complex T cell assays, including next generation sequencing of virus-specific T cells and functional T cell studies testing the downstream effects of key T cell regulatory genes.
Candidates must be highly motivated, independent in task completion, and comfortable accepting feedback and guidance from colleagues.
The ability to work well in a team is a must, as well as the maturity to adapt to changes in the experimental approaches or novel pathogens.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Develops and designs experiments to study pathogen-specific CD4 and CD8 T cells in human blood and tissue Performs high parameter flow cytometry on virus-specific CD4 and CD8 T cells from human blood and tissue Generates next generation sequencing and other omics data on virus-specific CD4 and CD8 T cells from human blood and tissue Develops approaches to manipulate human T cells to study downstream effects on T cell regulation and function Analyzes complex flow assays and interacts with computational colleagues to analyze omics data Reports and summarizes analysis results of a research project by creating graphs, tables, and charts.
