Why This Role is Important to Us:
The Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting is a key member of the senior management team and is responsible for providing leadership and direction to strategies, tactics, long-range forecasting, and overall efforts to continually improve the operations and financial results of Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA).
This executive will partner with key leadership to establish financial objectives and strategies that allow CCA to accomplish its mission and vision by ensuring leaders have appropriate financial data to make informed decisions and monitor progress towards business objectives.
The Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting is a newly created role developed to provide executive leadership to advance the alignment and integration of financials and business performance and to drive business insight from financial planning and analysis, corporate finance, and accounting.
This executive is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the accounting, audit, budgeting, financial reporting/analysis, and revenue management functions for CCA.
He/she also focuses on the future of the business, developing and implementing successful financial systems for transacting tomorrows business, which will ensure the continued success of the company.
What You'll Be Doing:
- As a member of the senior management team, participate in the development of short and long-term business strategies, including the establishment of financial goals, capital structure, and growth activities.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and direction of the accounting, audit, operating and capital budgeting, financial reporting/analysis, and revenue management functions for CCA to ensure:
- Timely preparation of consolidated, legal entity, and other managerial financial statements, including the maintenance of appropriate supporting documentation for those financial statements (e.
g.
, chart of accounts, general ledger, and the preparation of other periodic internal and external financial and management reports as necessary).
- Execution of the financial planning cycle, including the preparation of short- and long-range financial forecasts, feasibility studies as needed, and annual budgets.
- Provide leadership necessary to continually improve the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
- Ongoing assessment of strengths and weaknesses of CCAs financial strategies and processes and implement steps to improve them.
Oversee the financial viability of the health plans business plans and minimize the opportunity for financial risk or exposure.
- Strategic, capital, and tactical planning by creating standards and processes that balance financial management with long-term strategy.
- Ensure that the finance staff is functioning with effective financial systems and controls to monitor and evaluate performance and that work processes are sound and timely in providing useful information; ensure that financial staff is capable of interpreting financial and operating data and quickly responds to support financial goals; ensure that staff work collaboratively across all business areas through the presentation of information in an open, honest, purposeful, and succinct manner.
- Ensure that financial reporting systems support the business through the analysis of product lines, business segments, provider groups, employer groups, geography, etc.

- Provide insights on performance of business lines and influence performance improvement.
- Recruit, select, and retain highly qualified professionals.
Provide the participatory leadership to the finance staff necessary to maintain a motivated, productive, and competent team through open communication and delegation of responsibilities and authority.
Guide and direct subordinates in their personal and professional development.
- Instill a collaborative approach to subordinates interactions within the group and across the organization.
- Serve as a strategic business partner to the leadership team, including driving financial accountability through all areas of CCA and ensuring that the company meets the specific objectives.
- Develop and continually improve financial reporting and analysis tools and guidelines for the organization and ensure that financial reports meet the needs and requirements of the business, investors, and various government and regulatory bodies.
Develop high quality and timely financial reports tailored to support decision making across the organization as well as board and private equity sponsors to ensure a deeper understanding of the business and its key components.
- Ensure maintenance of internal controls and compliance with state and federal requirements regarding controls, accuracy of financial reporting, risked-based capital, etc.

- Responsible for the maintenance and compilation of accurate and reliable accounting records and for the maintenance of a sound system of accounting controls in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other requirements.
- As part of the Finance Management Team, work to proactively identify, recommend, and implement strategic and operational enhancements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
- Prepare and distribute financial management information that regularly and accurately presents the financial condition of CCA.
Communicate that information concisely, allowing senior leaders to swiftly identify and act on key issues and emerging trends.
- Direct the preparation and reporting of financial information to the Board of Directors, Board Committees, Executive Staff, Officers, and Management.
- Coordinate and interface with external auditors for financial and regulatory audits.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting plus CPA licensure is highly desired.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive financial/accounting leadership experience in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, controls, analysis, and reporting in a for-profit health plan and/or risk bearing integrated delivery system with at least three years in an executive leadership position.
- Experience working with government programs i.
e.
Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and/or Dual Eligible beneficiaries.
- Demonstrated ability to develop financial reports, metrics, external comparisons, and budget tools for health-plan-specific criteria and subject matter, particularly with enrollment, compliance, audit, risk, reimbursement, and the evolution of healthcare reform on state and federal levels.
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high growth environment that values cross functional collaborative approaches to solutions and initiatives.
- Multi-site multi-state experience highly preferred.
- Significant financial management experience in an organization recognized as best-in class for financial operations excellence.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including interacting and partnering with a diverse range of internal and external constituents, key stakeholders and audiences, as well as the ability to effectively communicate and present financial performance and expectations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven success in building and mentoring effective leadership teams and demonstrated ability to lead professionals in a variety of functional areas through influence.
