DescriptionThe Post Anesthesia Care Units at MGH are comprised of 7 individual critical care areas dedicated to the care of adult and pediatric patients preceding and immediately following surgery and/or procedures requiring anesthesia.
Provider coverage is from the Critical Care Anesthesiologists and PACU Advanced Practice Providers (APP s).
The Lead PACU APP is accountable for the delivery of consistent high quality patient care and supporting the Advanced Practice staff scope of practice (Nurse Practitioner s/Physician Assistants), and development of the APP staff.
Drawing on a broad understanding of clinical and hospital practices and policies, the Lead APP will continually assess system and clinical issues, scope of practice guidelines, and APP practice protocols.
This role in collaboration with the PACU Medical Director, PACU Nurse Director, and APP Nurse Manager involves but is not limited to the coordination of orientation, staff educational lectures, establishing protocols, systems development, staffing and scheduling, APP hiring, and staff evaluations.
The Lead APP will work to encourage and support full integration of our APPs as a team in the Perioperative Areas, as well as the team s interfaces with clinical and non-clinical staff.
PACU Lead APP Main
Responsibilities:
Maintains Direct patient care accounting for approximately 50% of work hours.
Serves as a team leader and resource to NP and PA staff members, point of contact for affiliating departments, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and others.
Communicates and instructs on practice, policies, and other pertinent information to orient and educate team members.
Serves as a member to junior and new staff members.
Coordinates and leads team meetings and communication.
Works collaboratively with PACU Nurse Director, APP Nurse Manager, and PACU Medical Director to develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to support both clinical care and operational efficiency on the APP service.
Collaborate with leadership in identifying current and future APP service needs and share responsibility for establishing processes to meet these needs.
Participates in and makes recommendations related to recruitment, performance, and competency.
Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current anesthesia/critical care APP practice.

QualificationsPACU Lead APP
Qualifications:
4-6 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
2 years NP experience in an acute care setting (inpatient or Emergency Dept) required.
Previous experience in a lead or resource role preferred.
Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current APP practices.
