Medical Assistant (40 hours, Evenings) - Emergency Department

In order to meet the timely needs for care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department, less acute patients are evaluated early after arrival in the Evaluation area of the ED. This area is comprised of several exam rooms. Patients receive a medical screening exam and the care is begun in this area.
Reporting to the Nurse Director, the medical assistant will be an integral member of the care team, working together with nurses, physicians, physician's assistants and patient care associates to provide care and service to patients. The Medical Assistant will be expected to have a global view of the evaluation area and the pre-evaluation waiting area and support the patient, clinical staff and other members of the care team in providing patients with care as efficiently as possible.
General Responsibilities
Active participation in patient care including anticipatory preparation obtaining vital signs, doing phlebotomy including proper identification and handling of specimens, doing EKG's and performing other procedures as determined relevant to the individual patient.
Overall responsibility for supporting the flow of the evaluation area, able to make decisions concerning bringing new patients into the exam rooms, providing needed information to the administrative and nursing staff concerning the work flow in the patient care area and keeping the Evaluation nurse informed of issues that affect the efficiency of care during the session.
Supports patient care and the health care team by expediting room turnover and transporting patients to other areas of the ED
Demonstrates a strong sense of shared responsibility to maintain an orderly work area, maintaining supplies and equipment in rooms and nurses station.
Shares responsibility with other medical assistants for the quality, safety and laboratory check systems in the clinical environment including Quality Assurance for Point of Care testing.
Assumes responsibility for appropriate monitoring and arranging for restocking of supplies for the clinical needs of the area
Shift :
Mix of 3p-11; 4p-12; and 11a-7 shifts, every other weekend (evening MA)
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Basic CPR certification required
EDUCATION:
Minimum of high school diploma, GED or equivalent
Graduate of an MGH approved Medical Assistant program required
Experience:
6-12 months of MA experience preferred

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
