Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. This position starts at a salary of $141,202.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $170,800.00 (GS-15, Step 10) with promotion potential to $170,800.00 (GS-15 Step 10). In this Assistant Director, Field Operations position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. Typical work assignments include:
Overseeing the Trade process associated with the importation and exportation of merchandise into the United States Managing and directing regulatory requirements of trade laws and legislation Directing Agriculture operations to include interceptions, clearance, enforcement, and risk assessment Providing guidance on enforcement and tactics to sustain a secure import process Evaluating employee performance; identifying developmental training needs for staff
Experience:
You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Supervising, managing, or directing operational programs and their appropriate support functions and directing local policy and program initiatives. Managing and directing the regulatory requirements of the multitude of existing trade laws and legislation such as the Tariff Act of 1930 and a numerous Free Trade Agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement. Ensuring the full and proper use of all available automated systems including the Advanced Targeting Systems (ATS), Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), and Agricultural Quarantine Activity System (AQAS) for agriculture inspections and enforcement actions. Maintaining effective, productive, and collaborative relationships with other Federal, state, and local law enforcement officials as well as with external trade and industry groups representing a broad range of stakeholders. Managing post incident resumption of Trade in case of a natural or man-made disaster that disrupts business or closes a port. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 01/24/2020. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
